NOT TO BE MISSED View- Close

La Paz is the capital of the state of Baja California Sur, located on the coast of the Sea of Cortez (Gulf of California). It is a quiet, welcoming city with authentic charm, very different from more touristy destinations such as Cabo San Lucas.

La Paz is one of the best bases in Mexico for marine ecotourism:

  • Isla Espíritu Santo 🏝️ – A UNESCO World Heritage Site, famous for its crystal-clear waters, rock formations and a colony of sea lions that you can swim with.
  • Grey whale watching 🐋 – Between January and March, you can see whales giving birth in nearby lagoons, such as Magdalena Bay.
  • Whale sharks 🦈 – From October to March, these gentle giants, up to 12 metres long, can be seen in the waters off the city.
  • Paradise beaches such as Balandra (one of the most beautiful in Mexico, protected for its ecosystem) and Playa Tecolote.
