Amalfi Airport reopens

A new beginning between tradition and innovation

The Salerno-Amalfi Coast airport, closed since 2016, is ready to re-open its doors in July this year, making a new era for the Amalfi Coast. This awaited event represents not on an opportunity for tourism industry, but also an opportunity to enhance the territory and promote local economic development.

History and traditions

The airport, located in one of the most fascinating locations in Italy, has a history dating back to the 1920s. Originally built to be used as a military airport, it has seen a decline over the years until its final closure. The reopening in July marks a return to the origins, with an eye to the future and innovation. Among the modifications made, there is an extension of the runway to 2,000 meters with new lighting systems; a further extension to 2,200 meters is planned for 2025, along with the addition of parking areas and improved accessibility..

Restructuring and innovation

The restructuring of the airport required a significant effort in terms of resources and time. State-of-the-art security systems have been implemented, and passenger services improved, making the airport not only an arrival point, but a 360-degree experience. The fusion of modern technology and respectful design of the surrounding landscape has created a structure that integrates perfectly with the natural beauty of the Amalfi Coast.

Economic and touristic impact

The reopening of the Amalfi airport will have a significant impact on the local economy. Tourism is expected to increase, with direct benefits for hotels, restaurants and businesses in the area. In addition, the airport will offer new employment opportunities for residents, contributing to the economic growth of the region.

Sustainability and environment

One of the key aspects of the renovation was the focus on environmental sustainability. Measures have been taken to reduce the ecological impact, such as the use of environmentally friendly materials and the implementation of renewable energy systems. The goal is to create an infrastructure that respects and protects the precious ecosystem of the Amalfi Coast. A new passenger terminal will be built, which, according to Naples Airport, will cover an area of 16,000 square meters and will represent the cutting edge in environmental sustainability through new ways of utilizing energy and natural, sustainable materials. In fact, it will feature a photovoltaic system to reduce CO2 emissions.
